Number games for kids can make learning math a more exciting and fun lesson for preschoolers. Perfect for Halloween, surprise them with the count the spider legs activity. This will help children practice counting while celebrating Halloween with an indoor activity.
Mathematics Activities for Kids
One of the first skills children understand in the incredible world of mathematics is counting. Children even develop this skill, almost intuitively in their daily lives. When they share their toys or their candies, they are counting without realizing it.
Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist, known for his work on child development, considered three important concepts to develop counting skills in children: 1) Conservation of numbers: the number is a characteristic of the whole. 2) Seriation: this is the ability to sort objects according to a characteristic. 3) Classification: this is the ability to sort things simultaneously into general and more specific groups, using different comparisons.
Playing a game is one of the best ways to involve children in mathematics. Remember that you must find a way to make learning a great experience. This way, children will perform a process of memorizing concepts and create neural connections expressed in learning. Through this practice, children carry out the ideas of number, seriation, and classification naturally.
If we play counting games, we help our children get knowledge of their daily lives. Still, we are also laying the foundations for the right mathematical processes that will be strengthened in school.
We are always going to use math in our lives. Math allows us to understand, in some way, the world around us, and this is the importance of children getting it in a creative and non-traumatic way.
