Activities for Children

Human beings are always doing mathematical processes, almost intuitively. One of these processes we carry out the most is pattern tracking.

According to the dictionary definition, patterns are the ordering of repeated things in a logical way, such as colors, shapes, sounds, among others. Understanding these concepts helps children start in the mathematics world.

We use math in our lives every day. Children are involved with maths when they start noticing colors, figures, and shapes. We are not aware that maths even helps children develop social skills when playing, sharing, and waiting for their turn. They start to repeat patterns in those cases.

It is very important to stimulate children during their early ages by developing critical thinking. This work must be done so children can manipulate the material they will work with; this will help them have specific thinking.

Remember that mathematical processes are abstracts. When they start working with the material, math becomes real, and that is how they reach better knowledge.

To them, colors, figures, and sizes are very eye-catching. Those are the first patterns they start playing. That is why it is necessary to always look for proper stimulation. When children are encouraged, they develop maths and music, arts, and emotional dimension.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THIS SENSORY CRAFTS ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

Math Activities for Younger Children

If children cannot identify several figures, they can do this shapes activity by identifying just one pattern. It could be one figure or color. It is better to do it with different colors until they can recognize geometric forms. But this can vary according to what we are looking to improve in our children.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

This sensory crafts activity can be done with older children. The best thing is that the level of difficulty should depend on the children’s age. Children should already know how to identify different patterns at this age, meaning that each spider web can have a circle, a square, and a triangle in a different order and color. Children must be able to place the pieces properly in the net.
