Celebrate Valentine’s day with toddlers by engaging them in a fun sensory activity. Check out let’s wash the hearts sensory activity for toddlers, a fun home activity for kids that will help develop their sense of touch and fine motor skills.
Without a doubt, sensory stimulation is essential for the development of intelligence; for this reason, the Montessori learning method speaks of prepared environments. Children can find different stimuli for each of their senses. For children, each motivation they perceive is something new due to their young age. That’s why we must facilitate interaction with the environment in an appropriate way.
The objective of sensory stimulation is to develop children skills necessary for life, such as developing thinking, interaction with other people, self-recognition, autonomy, independence, and self-esteem through freely exploring and discovering.
You can do many easy home activities with children that do not require much elaboration, such as activities with water, temperatures, textures. However, they must put aside any fears they have and can discover the world spontaneously. The adult is the one who must prepare a safe environment for optimal development without limiting the learning processes of children.
When children are allowed to interact with their environment, they obtain the foundation to build their personality. Suppose you want to have independent, autonomous children, to take on new challenges, with the necessary intelligence to face defeats and overcome them. It’s best to offer them a wide range of experiences to help them build the skills to be useful for society. In that case, you must try to provide them with experiences with everything they need.

HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF DIFFERENT AGES?
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER ONE-YEAR-OLD
This Valentine activity can be developed with younger children. In this case, the brush step can be omitted since children most likely have not developed the ability to brush the hearts and follow several instructions simultaneously. The children only look for the hearts inside the container with water and soap. In this way, a kids activity will be carried out according to the children’s development and abilities.
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 2
This sensory activity can be done with older children. To increase the difficulty level, children can classify by color of hearts. At this age, children can identify and classify; thus, an activity will be carried out according to the children’s development and abilities.
