When boys and girls get to control their fine motor skills, they are also coordinating between muscles, tendons, and nerves. As they move, they exercise core areas like the brain, the spinal cord, the nerves, muscles, and joints. That’s why it is essential to stimulate childrens’ fine motor skills at an early age.
Don’t think you should wait that children get to a specific age. It will help if you stimulate them since the day they are born. But, take into account that you must do it according to their age and abilities. A 2 years old boy or girl has some motor skills, but his/her fingers are still rigid; he/she just can scribble but with correct guidance, he/she will be able to take the pencil correctly, use scissors, glue, button/unbutton, and more.
These tasks look simple, but they are not. Most of the knowledge we have is very useful for our daily lives, and we get them through our hands. Using different materials will be a significant stimulus when learning to do those tasks. Benefits of this craft for kids are that children can learn to get dressed by themselves, tying their shoes, eat using cutlery, brush their teeth, write, among others.
The next Thanksgiving activity also helps to stimulate the sense of touch by doing a horn of plenty using different materials and fine motor skills.
