We are constantly looking for ways to empower and develop children’s abilities, but we barely think about their social and affective development. Roleplay is an activity that allows boys and girls to develop their social skills. Through this game, children rehearse their adult attitudes and develop skills to interact with their environment.
This boat craft allows children to develop their concepts about reality while playing. In this process, interaction with other children is essential. Children manage to learn the rules of coexistence and respect differences. It also promotes shy children’s participation allow them to be more secure and express their ideas.
It is very important that, during this process, children are with an adult since the adult is the one who guides and motivates the activity and talks with boys and girls about it at the end of the game to measure the knowledge they get.

HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY?

Goal: Enhance children’s hand and finger movement accuracy and their self-esteem.
Difficulty level: Basic. This paper boat craft activity is designed to be done autonomously and independently with adult surveillance.

MATERIALS
- Geometric shapes (previously made)
- Different blue tones cardboard
- White cardboard
- Glue
ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT
Step 1:
Rip the blue cardboard and glue the pieces at the bottom of the white cardboard to create a sea.
Step 2:
Use a yellow circle to make the sun. The boat will be made with a semi-circle, a triangle, and a popsicle stick.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THIS PAPER BOAT CRAFT ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD
You can do this paper boat craft activity with younger children, but you will need to use other materials. Although ripping is one of the first techniques children learn, making it on cardboard maybe a little bit hard for them, so that you can use Tissue paper. To create the boat, you can print a template, and children can use paint, playdough, or pieces of color paper.
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6
To do this activity with older children, you will not need to change materials. At six or older, children may be able to cut the geometrical shapes and glue them to the cardboard.
