Manual work is one of the best things children and their families can do because it is an excellent option to spend fun, free time together. Nowadays, people live in a constant rush due to technology. Thanks to it, we adults can answer almost immediately to give solutions to our children’s needs, forgetting the importance of patience in their lives.

When doing this type of activity with our children, the benefits we can find are both physical and cognitive, and even emotional. Through crafts, children are constantly working on the right side of the brain as they develop creativity and imagination. Also closely related is the ability to be sensitive to different situations to see aesthetics in what they do and observe and the spatial vision of each object. This leads us to the fact that children can express what they feel and their perception of the world around them.

Please note that the benefits transcend promoting concentration, patience, and perseverance, which nowadays are qualities that must be reinforced in our children due to our lives’ speed. This also allows them to increase their self-esteem, feeling satisfied with the finished work. It also elevates their self-confidence when they realize that they can finish any project they start.

Additionally, during these activities, children can feel personal progress overcoming challenges autonomously. They understand the importance of focusing on a certain task when planning it step by step and gradually solving problems that arise along the way. Children learn and remember when these exercises are done as a family, it strengthens teamwork, social relationships, and, of course, the family bonds.

HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY?

MATERIALS

Glittered foamy in several different colors
Liquid silicon
A pencil
Scissors
Silk/tissue paper
A cardboard tube
A small circle lid

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step1:

Using the circle lid, trace around it with the pencil on the largest piece of foamy and cut it out.

Step 2:

Cut one side of the circle to the center.

Step3:

Create a conic (pointed) item with the circle and glue it to the cardboard tube.

Step4:

Glue the other colored foamy strips around the cardboard tube.

Step 5:

Make some strips with the tissue paper and glue them to the tube’s bottom. This will represent flames as the rocket is blasting off.

July 4^th Activity for Preschoolers

Younger children can do this paper rocket craft activity. They will need an adult’s guidance and surveillance because we do not want to put children in danger. A variant of this preschool activity is that children paint the firework rocket or glue pieces of paper to develop their fine motor skills.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

You can also do this activity with older children. To increase this July 4th activity’s difficulty level, they can create a bigger firework rocket with recycled boxes and use other materials such as paints, ribbons, and rulers. You can also talk to them about how professionals handle fireworks and the damages that can be caused if fireworks are not properly manipulated.
