All children love working with materials, paints, Play-Doh, blocks, colors, etc. However, these activities are easier to do before children have started their school stage. That does not mean that children’s interests change upon starting school, but their priorities change; they are now focused on fulfilling other tasks and putting these activities aside.

When this happens, other activities appear that, for parents and children, seem to be a good alternative, and they are digital games. These require less physical effort, and children do not make a mess when they play. Still, it is at this point that we must ask ourselves which activities bring the most benefits to our children’s lives.

Art in childhood is not a modern invention; it has existed since man emerged. It is a way of expressing feelings and emotions. Through art, children express themselves freely without fear of being singled out. However, this is not all. When performing artistic activities, many skills are strengthened, such as fine motor skills, which will allow children to improve reading processes.

Writing and daily activities strengthen children’s emotional dimension as they work to express themselves more freely and without fear. Cognitive functions, such as critical thinking, creativity, and imagination, are also developed. Finally, it helps children free themselves from the stress of facing new challenges every day. Throughout this process, the parent’s task is to provide the necessary time and space. MATERIALS

A plastic dish
Two half-sheets of card stock or heavy paper
Paint in several colors
Yarn
Scissors
A pen
2 containers

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step 1:

Draw and cut out the shape of a football on the heavy paper.

Step 2:

Draw the lines of the ball on the pieces you just cut out.

Step 3:

Put the paint on the plastic dish and put the yarn on top. The idea is that the yarn should be smeared as much as possible with different colored paints.

Step 4:

Arrange the yarn on one of the pieces of paper. Make sure that some of the yarn is left outside the shape.

Step 5:

Place the other card stock piece on the yarn matching the shape of the ball. Put your hand on top of the ball to hold it straight while you pull the string out.

HOW DO WE DO THIS FOOTBALL ART ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF DIFFERENT AGES?

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

This football arts and crafts for kids activity can be developed for younger children. To do activities according to children’s development and abilities, they must be given two football shapes previously made card stock. Instead of soaking the yarn with paint, the child can pour paint directly on the card stock football.

If it is too difficult for children to pour the paint onto the card stock, the adult can help them with this step. Once the paint has been poured, the child will spread the paint using a piece of foam or a cotton ball. In this way, he/she will make a work of art with the indicated materials.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

This football arts and crafts for kids activity can be done with older children. It is unnecessary to change the materials to increase the difficulty level. After the child removes the yarn and forms a figure, he/she can use a paintbrush to draw a background related to the image formed; it can be a sky, a landscape, the galaxy, etc. The important thing is that the child lets his/her imagination fly. In this way, an activity will be carried out according to the children’s development and abilities.
