Advantages and Disadvantages of Disposable Diapers

Each modern child has worn a disposable diaper at least once. There are advantages and disadvantages of disposable diapers. Though there is also an opinion that their frequent use can be harmful.

Disposable Baby Diapers

Advantages of disposable diapers:

  • powerful absorbent provides dryness and comfort, which makes the child behave calmer;
  • they are easily fixed on the baby’s bottom, don’t leak, and don’t stain clothes;
  • there is no necessity to wash them after each use;
  • they do not take up a lot of space in the bag. And they are easier to take on the road;
  • they absorb unpleasant smells.

Disadvantages of disposable diapers:

  • they delay the process of teaching the child to go potty. The child simply cannot understand how it happens as it’s always comfortable and dry;
  • they are expensive because cheap diapers can cause skin irritation. Most parents prefer the more expensive ones;
  • synthetic fabrics can cause allergies. There is an alternative option –  ECO diapers. They are made of natural cellulose which is safe for the environment;

Disposable Diapers

  • some parents think that synthetic diapers cause severe overheating and affect the reproductive function of boys. However, this is not scientifically proven because a full diaper increases the temperature around the skin by half of a degree, leading to overheating of internal tissues and organs.

Speaking about diaper rash and skin irritation in babies, they can occur on the child’s skin when using any type of diaper. It depends on how often you change diapers and wash the child’s bottom.

Alternatives for diapers

  • Reusable cloth diapers are great alternatives for disposable diapers (clothing folded in several layers): for example, you’ll need 10-15 pieces of clothing per day for a child under 6 months. The fabric can also be different: gauze, fleece, bamboo.
  • Swaddling clothes are wrapped around the child’s tummy and fastened with ropes or pins.

Disposable Diapers for babies

  • Diapers-panties with dense textures are more suitable for children from 1 to 2 years old.

However, it’s not a very good idea to completely reject disposal diapers. It’s better to combine different methods. You can use disposable diapers when you are not at home and fabric reusable substitutes for the night. It’ll make the process of teaching the child to go potting faster and will save mom’s nerves.
