Indoor Activities for Kids At Home
As previously mentioned in other articles, the development and stimulation of fine motor skills are essential for children to obtain the necessary skills to meet the challenges presented to them daily.
All the activities carried out must be done in an acceptable way so that children achieve development in each of the areas, physical, cognitive, and emotional, through experiential activities.
One of the techniques to develop fine motor skills is ripping papers. With this technique, kids develop bilateral coordination because when ripping, each hand moves in the opposite direction, eye-hand coordination, concentration, development of strength in hands and fingers, and many more.
Another technique to enhance fine motor skills is coloring. When the child is told that he/she cannot go outside the established limits or the drawing outline, precision is developing in their movements.
Drawing and coloring also allow the strengthening of autonomy. Each drawing they make represents a work of art and should be considered that way.
Drawing and coloring allow boys and girls to express their emotions more easily. These activities are used by psychologists to identify personality patterns or trauma in childhood.
The following motor skill activity is designed for children and involves the two techniques mentioned above. It is a simple activity that can be done at home, whereby parents can observe the development of their children’s skills.

HOW DO WE DEVELOP THE ACTIVITY?
Topic: Ripping and Coloring
Age: 4 to 6-year-old
Activity objective: Through this autumn leaves craft activity, children will learn different techniques for the development of fine motor skills and,at the same time, decorate autumn leaves.
Difficulty level: Intermediate, this leaf craft activity is designed for children to carry out autonomously by following instructions.

WHAT MATERIALS DO WE NEED FOR THIS AUTUMN LEAVES CRAFT ACTIVITY?
- 3 autumn leaves templates (previously made)
- 3 sheets of paper
- Markers
- Colors
- Glitter
- Tape
- Constructionpaperforripping
ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT
Step 1:
Tape the autumn leaf template on the sheet of paper. With the marker, trace the outline of the autumn leaf.
Step 2:
Make glue dots inside the leaf.
Step 3:
With both hands and fingers, rip the construction paper into small pieces and stick it on the glue points inside the autumn leaf.
Step 4:
Tape or glue an autumn leaf template onto the second sheet, again trace the outline of the leaf with the marker
Step 5:
Color the autumn leaf with orange.
Step 6:
Tape or glue the third leaf template onto a sheet of paper and trace the autumn leaf outline.
Step 7:
With the glue, draw a pattern on the leaf to represent its veins, and add glitter over the glue.

Fun At-Home Activities for Younger Children
If the boys and girls can not rip the papers, the leaf activity can be done with Play-Doh. They should use their fingers to separate pieces of Play-Doh and glue it inside the leaf.
If they can hold a pencil, they can use it instead of their fingers to gather pieces of Play-Doh to glue.
For coloring, they can use thick crayons that will allow them to have a better grip.
On the last autumn leaf shape, the parents should supervise children while applying the glue. It’s best applied using material like cotton, which is easier for children to handle when rubbing glue inside the shape.
MODIFICATIONS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS OVER 6 YEARS OLD
Indoor Activities for Kids
Ripping paper allows boys and girls to exercise small finger muscles. The 7-year-old kids already have the ability to cut using scissors.
In this case, they will not rip the paper; they will cut and glue it. With the second template, they can use a brush and paint when coloring the leaf. The last template is unnecessary to make any variation since applying the glitter requires precision movement.
