The family, social or educational environment fundamentally influences children’s development since it depends on how the knowledge they receive will contribute to their education, positively or negatively. Eventually, children adopt behaviors according to the teaching and upbringing by imitating others.
Honesty is an important value each child must learn. However, some parents lieto their children to protect them from some truths that they would not understand; for example: when a loved one dies, they tell them that they went on a trip. Parents do not measure the consequences, especially if this type of lie becomes a daily routine in parenting and if the subject requires honesty.
That is a mistake, as children include many early signs and lessons in social behavior by observing their parents. “Lying repeatedly could give children contradictory messages in the future, break trust with their parents, a phenomenon that could cause a crisis in adolescence, learn that lying is reasonable and acceptable and, therefore, replicate the parenting model with their own family.”-Kang Lee.
The moral construction is acquired within the family, which provides elements for children to develop the cognitive, affective, and moral areas. During this stage of development, it is essential to incorporate ethical norms that help them live together and form the personality.
An excellent way to provide tools for children’s development is to strengthen values such as responsibility, generosity, commitment, tolerance, humility, gratitude, and honesty.
The strengthening of social and moral values is essential for the harmonious performance of work in the classroom and society.
