Children are always fascinated with the rainbow. They will always stop to see it and get amazed by it. But why is it so amazing for them? The rainbow is the light reflection on raindrops on air; that’s why it appears after the rain. The rainbow has seven colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple.

Colors can influence people’s behavior and children’s learning since colors manage to calm or exalt people’s mood and improve their ability to concentrate. They produce a brain reaction. Each color causes effects on brain neurotransmitter substances.

Each color has a different influence on children. For example:

Red: It is recommended in shy children since it creates a feeling of vitality and strength. Sometimes it can also cause aggressiveness, so it is not recommended to use it with children with hyperactivity or who do not know how to handle their anger.

Yellow: It is a color that transmits positivity and energy. It favors concentration in children. It can be beneficial in children with depression problems.

Blue: Ideal for very nervous children or for those who find it difficult to fall asleep. This color transmits calm and serenity. If a child already exhibits calm behavior, it won’t be beneficial for them.

Green: It is the color of balance. It relaxes the nervous system and facilitates reading processes, favoring reading comprehension and fluency in children’s reading; however, using it excessively can make children feel lazy.

Orange: It combines the benefits of red and yellow colors. It brings significant benefits to children who find it difficult to make friends since it favors communication.

Purple: It stimulates intuition in children. It is a color that combines the strength of red and the serenity of blue.

White: This color is of great importance for children. It benefits creativity, transmits purity, serenity and provides visual rest.

Colors can be a great ally when changing some behaviors in children and enhancing their abilities, so activities like our Easter science experiments can be beneficial for them.

Topic: Experiments and colors

Difficulty level: Intermediate. This Easter science experiment activity is designed to be done autonomously and independently through exploration, always under adult surveillance.

MATERIALS

Some paper towels
Eight plastic cups
Food coloring
A container with water
A spoon
A tray

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step 1:

Pour water into four of the plastic cups. (ADULT SUPERVISION)

Step 2:

Add food coloring in each plastic cup of water.

Add food coloring to the Easter science experiments

Step 3:

Put the empty cups between the cups with water (you can place the cups in astraight line or a circle).

Step 4:

Fold the paper towels in half.

Step 5:

Put the ends of the towels into each plastic cup and see the results.

HOW TO DEVELOP THIS EASTER SCIENCE EXPERIMENT ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

You can do this Easter science experiment activity with younger children. To reduce the difficulty level, you won’t need to change the materials. Children may not have developed dexterity in their hand and finger movements at this age, so be sure that the children can pick up the container to pour the water. In a spoon, you can put the coloring food for them to add and stir.

After experimenting, you can socialize with children and ask them about some hypotheses about the result. In this way, children will carry out an Easter activity appropriate to their development and abilities.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OVER 6 YEARS OLD

You can do this Easter science experiment activity with older children. To increase the difficulty level and make the exercise more attractive for children, they can draw a rainbow on each towel’s end using markers. Then introduce the two ends of each towel into the cups with water and observe the result. After doing the preschool activity, they can brainstorm and investigate the phenomenon that occurred. In this way, children will carry out a science activity appropriate to their development and abilities.
