Help kids improve and develop their fine motor skills by doing a fun activity. Check out this Valentine’s day hearts with beads activity, a fun home activity for kids.
When we talk about fine motor skills, we refer to the movements we make with the body’s smallest muscles, such as the hands, fingers, feet, mouth, and tongue. The stimulation of motor skills allows children to have greater precision and coordination in essential activities such as cutting, tearing, coloring, painting, and writing, which they develop with didactic activities.
Still, we do not limit these movements only to school activities. Before children begin their educational stage, they must develop skills necessary to live day to day, such as eating alone, dressing, or brushing their teeth. These activities will help them be more independent and be prepared to take on new challenges.
These early activities help children have a better pincer grip, precise movements with the hands with the index finger and the thumb. When children start their school stage, they will be tasked with carrying out activities such as taking an object or picking up class elements. These exercises help them later onto have good writing.
Children must work on it from their first years of age because it allows them to have precision in their movements, and they are activities that they can do both at school and home. In their school, they can carry out activities such as puncturing, cutting and tearing.
At home, they can be stimulated with daily activities such as button/unbutton their clothes, tying their shoes, placing small objects inside others. In this way, when they are in further courses, they will have good fine motor skills.
Some excellent tripod clamp development activities are to put corn kernels and beans in a container and ask the child to separate them. They can also pour liquids from one jar to another, from one pot to a bottle, from one bottle to a mug; screw and unscrew nuts and washers; cleaning small surfaces. These home activities correspond to the Montessori learning method of practical life. The child learns through his own experience in a real way.
