The Montessori learning method bases its entire methodology on respect for the child and confidence in their self-learning. Children have a great capacity to learn everything they find in their environment; that’s why Maria Montessori named children’s brain as “The absorbing mind.” Experimentation and interaction with the environment allow children to learn unconsciously, which will become conscious learning.
This development stage is critical; this will lead to children’s future and their ability to socialize and learn. In this process, the accompaniment and help of the adult are essential, not because children cannot learn. It is quite the opposite; their capacity is infinite. They impressively absorb everything, but they will need a guide to organize their thoughts.
Based on the above, we can say that adult involvement is essential in children’s learning process. It is the adult who, with respect and love, facilitates and makes them recognize the different stimuli in an already prepared environment. The adult must be able to guide and identify children’s needs. When children interact with their environment, they do so autonomously and independently, based on their interests and needs. In this process, the adult must take action if the child requires it.
Knowledge should not be inserted into children’s heads; they should perceive it through manipulation and perception through their senses. At this point, it is essential to motivate children to learn more with the help of science experiments, ensuring authentic learning.
