One of the main things people enjoy is eating. Not only for the great pleasure that food produces but because it is a moment to share with the people you love. Today’s world is in constant motion. Sometimes you don’t have the time to share and dialogue, even with the people you live with, so dinner time satisfies a biological need and strengthens emotional ties.
The sense of taste allows one to perceive the flavors of each of the foods that are tasted. It is a crucial sense since survival also depends on it. Much more than recognizing which flavors you like and which you don’t, the sense of taste allows you to identify whether the food is in good condition and suitable for eating.
Flavors can be identified through the taste buds, which are the receptors, which are sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. However, the sense of taste can have some alterations, which causes the flavors to be perceived rightly; the factors can be many. Such as respiratory or smell problems (the sense of taste and smell are closely related), brain injuries, dental injuries, etc.
Children have already perceived different flavors at the time of birth because the amniotic fluid can change flavor according to the mother’s food at that time. That does not mean that their sense of taste is fully developed. This is why stimulation is essential; the more exposed and familiar with the different flavors, the more easily new foods can be included in your diet.
